Beware of Transmission Problems
Vehicle
2005 Chevrolet Avalanche 1500 4dr Crew Cab Z71 4WD (5.3L 8cyl 4A)
Review
Love the concept and versatility, but disappointed with reliability. I have had to replace the transmission at 32 months/49,000 miles (at considerable out-of-pocket expense) and continue to have problems with steering and front suspension noise.
Favorite Features
Fun to drive, even in city traffic.
Suggested Improvements
Improve durability and dependability of drivetrain and suspension components. Interior is too plain.

A Man's Truck
Vehicle
2005 Chevrolet Avalanche 1500 4dr Crew Cab Z71 4WD (5.3L 8cyl 4A)
Review
I had a 2000 Frontier Crew Cab and thought it was a good truck, that was until I bought the Avalanche. We've driven it to NYC and it was as comfy as my wife's Acura. I've hauled loads and loaded my touring motorcycle in the bed. It pulls trailers with ease and has plenty of giddyup when you want to pass. I average about 20mpg highway and 16mpg in the city. The stereo is awesome and the a/c gets cold in a flash. I am angry I waited so long to upgrade from the Frontier. That little truck is nice if you're a suburban pretender, but if you're a do-it- yourselfer or a working man, the Avalanche is the truck for you.
Favorite Features
My favorite feature is the bed cover system. We drove to NYC and DC for our vacation. It rained like Vietnam in DC and our luggage, which included my wife's designer gown, stayed dry. I also like being able to lay down the backseat and haul long objects.
Suggested Improvements
The dash is rather plain-Jane. They need to spice it up a little.

Love Avalanche
Vehicle
2005 Chevrolet Avalanche 2500 4dr Crew Cab LT 4WD (8.1L 8cyl 4A)
Review
This is my 3rd Avalanche. I have bought lots of vehicles and this is my favorite. The 2500 is not your average Avalanche. It weighs about 2000lb's more and has an 8.1 litre engine. However, the outside diminsions are all the same. I now know why they put a fuel limiter switch on it. Definitely a man's truck. I pull a 3 ton boat and have to be careful because you can forget it is back there. Get better gas mileage with it pulling the boat than the 5.3 litre. But, the 5.3 did get over 20 mpg not pulling. Unfortantly they don't make it anymore.
Favorite Features
Pulling capacity, luxuary, comfort, gps, heated seats, XM, 4x4, looks
Suggested Improvements
Come back with a 2500 with the diesel and Allison tranny.

Nice Truck
Vehicle
2005 Chevrolet Avalanche 1500 4dr Crew Cab LT 4WD (5.3L 8cyl 4A)
Review
I really enjoy driving this vehicle, however, I only get about 13-14 miles to the gallon. The other issue I have experienced is, behind the rear driver side passenger seat, it leaks water every time it rains. This will be my third time taking it to the dealer. I'm considering getting different truck.
Favorite Features
Able to lay down rear seats to to put long items. Nice Bose stereo system!
Suggested Improvements
Need to fix water leaks, improve on dashboard with some woodgrain and obtain better gas mileage.
Great Solid Vehicle

2005 Chevrolet Avalanche 1500 4dr Crew Cab LS Rwd (5.3L 8cyl 4A)
Review
Great ride, easy to drive. Lots of room and can handle a payload. Hauled 2 900lbs. Bags of bulk sand and it still drove like a champ.
Favorite Features
Smooth ride, lots of room and a full tank of gas lasts 2 whole weeks.
Suggested Improvements
Retractable rear window, bigger tires and wheels, a sport model, flashier paint options.

Very Nice
Vehicle
2005 Chevrolet Avalanche 1500 4dr Crew Cab LT 4WD (5.3L 8cyl 4A)
Review
I went from a Mustange GT to my Avalanche LT and all I can say is I love it! I got the maxed out truck (even the upgraded paint) minus the luggage rack and have experinced nothing but perfection. This is my first truck and don't see how I ever managed without it. The new 07's have hit the mark with the tailgate, rims, and upgraded interrior. Very nice Chevy, very nice!
Favorite Features
The heated seats and DVD system. The intergraded phone is an added bonus due to me being in the military and can't use cell phones while driving on base.
Suggested Improvements
Would like to see the black plastic on the back to be modeled after the Escalade (smooth) so it can be painted to match if desired. Maybe even come that way. Now that's an idea Chevy!

2005 Avalanche
Vehicle
2005 Chevrolet Avalanche 1500 4dr Crew Cab Z71 4WD (5.3L 8cyl 4A)
Review
Transmission problems at 34,000 miles and less than 1 year of service. 2wd to 4wd selection buttons and servo motor went out at 45,000 and had to be replaced. Repaired transmission failed at 53,000 miles and is being replaced with a used transmission underneath an extended warranty purchased at a cost of $2,800 as insurace for the transmission repair. I think I should learn how to spell Toyota?

I Love My Truck!
Vehicle
2005 Chevrolet Avalanche 1500 4dr Crew Cab LT 4WD (5.3L 8cyl 4A)
Review
I love my truck. I often sleep in it when I'm in between jobs. It's the only truck I ever considered buying. I waited 3 years to buy and it was well worth the wait. Although, it has a rattle in the engine compartment. But I still love my truck. I've heard others traded theirs in or got rid of it because of the noise. I love my truck and I'm keeping it for life. I may get a sports car (of course a Chevy) in the future and I'm still keeping my truck.
Favorite Features
The whole truck! Since I have to name a favorite feature, I would say the cooler and storage compartments.
Suggested Improvements
Get rid of the engine noise. It's a rattle in the engine compartment not the engine itself.

This is as comfortable as any car and drives just as well. I love the concept. A full lenght bed when you need it, and covered bed for smaller items.
Favorite Features
The covered short bed.
Suggested Improvements
Change the covered bed latches. Would like to latch and unlatch all from back of vehicle.

Happy with it
Vehicle
2005 Chevrolet Avalanche 1500 4dr Crew Cab Z71 4WD (5.3L 8cyl 4A)
Review
Very fun to drive. For a truck, it has averaged about 16.5 MPG, which is not bad. I tow a boat and a travel trailer at times. It has been in the shop three times, twice with transmission problems, at the dealer a week each time, other time was a computer problem. I have had major tire problems, none of the orginal tires are on the vehicle, I have had it 14 months now.
Favorite Features
XM Radio is awesome! I got the sun and sound package, off road package and the everything else package. It is loaded.
Suggested Improvements
I do not know how many other people are having transmission problems, but it has been the worst problem with mine. I would have liked a sportier dash package but took care of it with aftermarket parts.
