2005 Chevrolet Avalanche 1500 4dr Crew Cab LS Rwd (5.3L 8cyl 4A) 1500 4dr Crew Cab LS Rwd (5.3L 8cyl 4A)
I bought an 89 Daytona Shelby when I was still on active duty; my intention to keep her forever. 8 years later and 2 children who outgrew the tiny seats had me searching the dealerships. I bought an 08 Dodge Quad Cab Big Horn over the summer, and one trip later realized my critical mistake. Using the mini-rear seats of the Daytona as a reference for something larger was a poor choice. One month later I was already scanning the dealership lots. I saw an 05 Avalanche (never, NEVER a fan of Chevy!)with 49,000 original miles- 1 owner, and the truck was nearly mint. The salesman prompted me to keep it overnight...he knew the outcome. She sure sits pretty in the driveway :)
Comfort, seat support, versatility, handling, more power over my trade-in (4.7 Magnum). Side storage in the bed (and I thought Dodge had the take on side-bed storage).
Sluggish steering, adjustable steering is awkward, telescoping steering wheel for tall drivers What in the heck do all the buttons on the console do? I just want to turn on the radio!!!!!

I bought this used and have never ever looked back and said "Why" This is the perfect SUV/TRUCK for me. I sold my Ford F150 and my older SUV and rolled two cars into this one. What a joy to own and drive. I'm getting in the low 20s for overall mileage and could not be happier. I take the covers off the back and get 20 bales of hay in with no problem. It hauls out two horse trailer as easy as can be. The interior room is wonderful great to take a trip in. I love the overall looks of it.
Ride. Covered area. Mid gate. Looks

Purchased the vehicle at 10 miles. Enjoyed the vehicle for almost three years when I started to have problems with the transmission. It would not shift properly. Fixed under extended 75,000 warranty. Few months later tranny went bad again. Bad part about I exceeded the coverage under the warranty and the tranny warranty;( The rest is history
Enjoyed the way it handled for the time being
Need to make better quality tranny parts.
Love the truck. Got new in 9/05 Not had a problem with mine. Rides great. No noise, no problems, plenty of power. 14-16 MPG in city 20- 24 Hwy. It's a heavy truck and I am happy with the MPG and the ride. Great truck. Want better MPG get a car but you won't have a truck. Want worse MPG buy a Ford.
Side storage compartments. The Bermuda Blue paint.
The black plastic spoiler and the bed covers have faded in the sun, spots of white. I was going to take it back to dealer before the warrenty ran out and get new covers and back spoiler but procrastination beat me to it.
I have had this truck for 3 yrs and still would not trade it for a new one. It has been one of the best investments I have ever made.
Comfortable and a great ride with plenty of power.
Great ride, easy to drive. Lots of room and can handle a payload. Hauled 2 900lbs. Bags of bulk sand and it still drove like a champ.
Smooth ride, lots of room and a full tank of gas lasts 2 whole weeks.
Retractable rear window, bigger tires and wheels, a sport model, flashier paint options.
This is as comfortable as any car and drives just as well. I love the concept. A full lenght bed when you need it, and covered bed for smaller items.
The covered short bed.
Change the covered bed latches. Would like to latch and unlatch all from back of vehicle.
Owned a Ford F-150 for 10 years, still have it, still use it, still a great truck. Ive owned the '05 Avalanche LT for one year now. I bought the truck because I liked the style and every Avalanche owner I spoke to was passionate about how much fun it was to drive. This vehicle is easy to handle with great control, power, and smooth ride. Every truck owners dream, including great gas mileage; city 19 hwy 24, I average 20.1mpg. Best investment Ive made in a long time. Now all I need is to find an E85 fuel station.
The ride! Sun roof, heated seats, and chrome running boards all come in handy.
Poor visibility. I added rear safety sensors. There is a good sized dead spot right behind the vehicle. Rear safety sensors and rear video camera should be required on this vehicle. Back seats are a bit stiff for adults, would recommend GM improve lumbar support in rear seat.
This is a great vehicle. It has numerous features that turn out to be very useful, such as side compartment that also serve as ice coolers. The fact that the bed drains is nice during the winter. Interior is extremely roomy (I'm 6'2")and comfortable.
Side compartments and removable hard cover top over the bed.
None, this vehicle is great!
We love this multi-purpose truck! It accomodates us on our camping trips, hauling the kids bikes, and provides a very comfortable ride around town and on long distance trips. (We do have some concerns about the quality of GM's workmanship tho)
Love its versatility and comfortable ride!
Automatic locking tailgate would be nice. The brakes are a bit mushy and the interior is a little cheap for a $40,000 vehicle.
I drive for a living, and after owning 3 vehicles in 2 years...I've finally found the perfect vehicle for spending up to 8 hours a day/four days a week in. Comfort is incredible-Handling is great-Power is spelled C-H-E-V-Y.
Ease of bed conversion. Extra side storage. Exterior appearance. Interior comfort.
I was more than happy to be able to upgrade my Chevy vehicle from a Tracker (2WD convertible) which was fun to drive-like a golf cart, to the Avalanche. WOW! I have had it for 3 months now and enjoy every second driving it. Power, style, and smooth ride. I should mention that the stock stereo/CD system works just fine. I have Bose in the house and thought I'd be spoiled and would need the Bose quality in the truck-NAH. It rocks just fine.
I love the flexibility to go from SUV to truck. Hauling the kids or a stack of sheetrock-it's all good! The ride is smooth and engine gets it done.
The gas price increase was the last thing I needed and the worst thing about the Avalanche-I suppose that is true about every big truck. It just costs too much to fill up. I have opted to just accept it because it is a new truck. Will be something I look at next time.
This truck is awesome. I debated with myself for a long time before breaking down and getting one. I dont regret my decision, I love it. I also believe the truck looks best in the Sunburst color. This truck has the best comfort I have ever owned. I traded my Tahoe in for it.
Bose stereo system and DVD system.
Fuel, but it gets the best fuel economy versus any truck
I have been very satified with my purchase. It has proven to be very reliable and durable.I can ride with style and grace or pull, haul, and move anything I desire with no problem. I will be trading for the next year model soon.
Love it! Drove on a family vacation 7,000 miles. It was great. The only drawback is the gas mileage. If you use your luggage rack, it will drink extra gas. It rides heavy on the highway and handles well in the mountains. I don't regret one thing about this purchase except me and my wife fighting to see who gets to drive it.
17 inch wheels, sunroof and removable back glass. Bose system. It feels like a convertible sports car with an attitude.
Better gas mileage
I owned a 2002 Avalanche for 3 years and just bought a 2005 Avalanche this month. I found the 2WD fuel usage to be very good considering the size of the vehicle. Except for the tailgate support recall and routine maintenance, I did not have one problem with the vehicle. It has been fun and useful to drive.
The gate feature makes it great for hauling longer items. The ability to transport four adults comfortably and still have the cargo room of a pickup makes this vehicle very versatile. Being a camper, I have the flexibility of dropping the gate and sleeping in the back during storms.
The 2005 interior gray color is lighter than the 2002 so stains will show easier.
Bought the basic vehicle with only the Z66 package. it has all I need. I love the ride and versatility. I use the midgate at least twice a week for something. The look without the body molding but with the wheel flairs is great. I usually get tired of a vehicle within a year, but I'll be keeping this one for a number of years.
Midgate and ride
Dated interior but still looks good.
I have always loved the look of the Avalanche and now I love everything about it. The ride feels like you are not in a truck at all but a big luxury car. It has alot of power and is very fun to drive.
My favorite feature is the midgate bed. No one else has anything like it!
Better gas mileage would be great, but when you purchase a truck you don't expect it to be the best for mileage.
I have 8000 miles on the unit and am getting 19.6mpg driving 40 miles/day to and from work. it's very comfortable on long trips.
Fold down rear seat when I need to carry 8 ft pieces of lumber home.
Need to have a locking compartment in the cabin, either center console or glove box. It would also be nice to have the second sun visors back as a feature like my '02 had. Also the second cargo box light like the '02.
A great vehicle for a mix of luxury and utility type environments. It accomodates and impresses passagers with comfort and style, while providing area to haul almost any type of cargo. The interior provides room, comfort and quietness to conduct business in person or on the phone. The cargo area can be changed and adapted with ease and on-the-fly to provide security with lockable closed- in space or one can change the setup to enable hauling of large long items. All of this with one vehicle, saves me money and a tremendous amount of time and effort.
I especially enjoy the ability to convert the cargo space on-the-fly to accomodate my variety of needs.
Provide more variety of colors for leather interior. Lower the height of the vehicle from the ground to provide greater ease in entering and departing the passenger space or change the spacing of the GM step bars to be more equal.
This Avalanche is by far the best vehicle I have ever had. The ride is not only quiet, but it rides like a car, and is the best looking truck/SUV by far. If you're looking for a great family truck, this is it. No problems at all
The room inside, the look outside, and the ride.
My Avalanche is the first full size truck I've ever owned after 25 years of driving. I bought it for its versatility, towing capacity and styling. The truck has not disappointed after 16,000 miles. Gas mileage in congested Dallas, with a lot of stop and go traffic everywhere, has averaged a little over 15 MPG. I like the ride and handling of the vehicle and it's really very comfortable as a daily driver. The only build quality problems I've had are with the body side molding which developed adhesive bubbles that required replacement of all door moldings after one year. I would never buy a just a pick-up. The versatility of a luxury vehicle with the ability to tow and haul is great!
Interior comfort. Ride comfort. Good handling for a big vehicle. Good power. Versatility of truck bed and the midgate. XM radio. Auto climate control
Improved reliability of memory seat and control settings. I have to reset my mirror postions, seat and pedal about once a week--my dealer is clueless about how to fix the problem.
This truck/suv has it all. You can lock items in the back with the rigid cover like an SUV. You can take it off and haul items in the bed. You can extend the bed into the cab of the truck. It is much more versatile than the standard truck.
The exterior is sharp and unique. The versaility and features offered are also one of a kind.
The braking is soft and takes some getting used to.
I have had it for 3 weeks now, and I drive 60 miles each way to work. Great ride. Gas mileage is not bad for the highway. I have been averaging 19-21 mpg. @ 80mph. We tow our camper with it, and it handles it with no problems. Very comfortable back seat areafor our 3 kids.
None that I can think of.
I love this vehicle. So smooth, and rides like you're on clouds. The Bose stereo system is excellent. I can't believe I'm doing 65 mph. It feels like it 25mph, that's how smooth it is. I love this vehicle. If I trade it in later on, it will be for another one.
Ssteering controls and adjustable pedals. The up high feel. The smooth drive.
I've used every inch of this vehicle and it can handle any type of cargo. One of the best options for self employed construction, plumbing, etc. Z66 impressed early but as time goes on it needs far too much dealer work. Comes with almost anything you could need for short, mid, or long drives. Comfortable seats both front and rear but leather is very cheap and wears quickly. Stereo is well below the quality that should be expected for the price of this vehicle. Eats oil like nothing I've ever driven. Gas mileage is horrible...and I was prepared for bad mpg, but not single digit bad. Tires become worn easily for some reason. Any truck is as good and 10K+ less with fewer overall hassle
Cargo covers keep 12ft lumber dry, styling still new to the market, 5 adults easy, nice looking workhorse if you can afford it
Better quality leather, better quailty stero, rear a/c vent location is terrible, body armor pure style no true function (go steel), bed lockable w/other locks, cargo tray w/wheels, fix oil consumption/gas consumption, standard backup sensor, less plastic inside...it's only a very expensive truck
First we thought about buying an Escalade, then we looked at both the Avalanche and the Escalade side by side. Not any difference in the profile. The front end was different as was the interior. For saving the extra money and being practical we went with the Avalance on a Smart buy. We have been on one trip (1200 miles) and this is a very comfortable and luxurious truck. We averaged 19 mpg on the trip, the power is very good along with the fuel economy. Six passengers are no problem. We took my daughter's dog with us one way to leave with a friend, the back seat folded down, the rear bulkhead folded down and the kennel sat with the door open in the cargo area facing forward. Worked great
The luxurious interior, easy ride and being able to reconform the interior.
Offer the Pearl White available on the Escalade.
The most complete vehicle I have owned in years. Will trade for a new one if this one ever dies. Engine does well above expectations. Interior is like sitting in my own private entertainment center.
BOSE, BOSE, BOSE, and warm leather seats. My second home.
Of course fuel economy. Get rid of that air intake for something more suited for a true driving experience.
The truck is neat in its design, but this makes it very, very large. Performance is poor (sloppy brakes, sloppy steering, handling and acceleration). I had mine back to the dealer six times within the first 9 months at which point I sold it to buy a different brand. Great concept, but GM needs to do a lot of work on overall build quality, interior design quality and performance (needs a little sport).
Midgate and built in bed covers. Four full size seats. Looks (WBH package... I hate the one with all the plastic on it).
Performance, handling, quality.
A little pricy even on base models. Tow package should be installed on all models standard. A little taller than regular trucks is a plus.
Hard bed cover panels, OnStar, locking tailgate, and side storage.
Rubber mats, tow package
I bought the Avalanche used with 12,000 miles in excellent condition and have not been dissapointed a bit. It does not get great gas mileage but I have driven a sport utility in the past, and it is about the same. The comfort of the ride and the usefullness of the Avalanche has made me very satisfied.
Confortable seating, roomy, has truck features, but rides like a car. I love the covered truck bed for those rainy days you're hauling stuff.
Bought this truck for my wife, but wish I could drive it everyday. My six year old loves the moonroof, teenager loves the XM radio, both dogs like the removable rear glass window so they can stick their head inside while riding in the bed. The only thing my wife complains about is parking. As far as problems, the oxygen sensor had to be replaced at 2500 miles and one of the speed sensors malfunctioned (5000 miles) so the check ABS and traction control lights came on.
Bose sound system, Onstar virtual advisor (for traffic reports, nice to know why i'm stuck in trafic), locking rear compartment (peace of mind that my cold beer is safe and secured).
I have had an Avalanche for 1 1/2 years. I have used it to go to beach, go on trips with my son's baseball team (transporting team players and equipment), go on vacations, and also to go out on the town. Being a contractor, I have used this vehicle on my jobs to transport materials and tools. I have loaded this vehicle up with lots of plywood, lumber, concrete, a/c equipment, landscaping materials, cabinets, office furniture, and many other things. The great part about it is that many of the times that certain materials were being transported, it was raining and none of it got wet, because of the Avalanche's closed in design. This vehicle is great in every way, for fun, family, and work.
Good looks, great ride, adaptability to many situations, height, comfort, and descent gas mileage.
Continue to improve gas mileage
Excellent. Back up visibilaity a little difficult. Rides better than any SUV I have rode in or owned and much, much more luggage room w/covered bed!
Covered bed. Great for luggage. Locking side compartments great fo storage and quick to get into.
Could use extra cup holders especially in back seat as the only 2 available there are in the fold down console which you cannot use if 3 people are riding there.
Purchased new, wheel alignment out of specs from factory it pulled left on test drive. Oxygen sensor went out in 1900 miles- took two days for part. Lots of interior room room for four large adults. Thats why I bought it. At 5400lbs, good touring vehicle and can haul/tow
No side cladding, looks clean. Fit and finish perfect. No squeaks/rattles, good sound system, plenty of power, smooth shifting
Lower step into vehicle
I was looking for a versatile truck that I could use for hauling as well as room for my family of three. After spending a considerable time looking and driving all options available I settled on the Avalanche and I am glad I did. It is the best purchase of the 20+ vehicles I have owned. I bought a model without body armor because of the improved looks from past models. My only suggestion to Chevrolet is that they improve the interior on the LT models by using less plastic. I have 5000 miles on the vehicle now and have experienced no quality or warranty problemns and getting a consistent 18 MPG. I would definitely recomment this vehicle to anyone.
Versitility of the vehicle. It's a great family hauler and is ready to haul load up to 8' when the rear seats are folded and mid hatch folded down. You also have the ability to haul loads out of the weather in the inclosed bed.
Plush up the interior on the LT models. The leather seats are nice but the plastic parts used on the dash and door panels look cheap in comparison.
It's the best driving vehicle I've ever owned. You can take 5 people up front and haul all of the luggage in the dry. You can haul a 4x8 sheet of plywood or other materials if needed in the dry .It has two tool box's that you can use for what ever ,I use mine for a fishing rod and equipment ,umbrella tie downs ,even a extra pair of shoes . Being able to take the panels off of the bed is great ,you can take two panels off and haul a stove or refrigerator ,you dont have to take all of the panels out and you have a bag to store them in .
6 cd stereo, bose, controls on the steering wheel, keyless entry, removeable bed panels, 1 yr free onstar
Telescopic steering wheel, both front seats power , molding around the fenders,
Best riding vehicle I have owned and this is my first truck. I will buy another one.
5.3 liter motor, electric folding mirrors, covered bed and fold down seats to extend the bed
Power rear window, power locking tailgate.
functionability, biggest trunk in the business, converts into a truck when needed & still has that soft car ride. comfort, mines loaded, a friend of mine has the H2 which has the same steering wheel controls, dash and stereo, door controls (seat heaters and foot adjustments) but you just don't sit at the same angle as the avalanche or suburban H2 more upright and stiff. In the nine monthes i've owned my 04 i've put 25k on it from the beach to the snow. "had the tranny replaced at 20k, warranty covered, bought extended 48 mon. 80k". Around town & local L.A. highways it's like you're to only be in this urban cruiser, feeling safe due to size and able to see over traffic, AWSOME! & 14.3mpg avg.
sunburst orange, sunroof, bose system ( you don't need to upgrade)trunk space, huge! dogs the the fold down back seat. and it's not a truck, your able to cart clients around like a sedan. Nice.
i raised the torsion bars on the front end up 2 inches to level out the truck, "100 bucks @ local tire shop, big difference" gives a bit of a stiffer ride (not much) but i like my vehicles to be tight on the road. Go make your own story. Have fun...
I had every intention of buying a 1500 silverado crew cab. However, I took the Avalanche for a test drive and immediately fell in love with it's ride, power, comfort and most of all..."versatility". I'm not the type of guy who will spend $4k on exterior mods for "others" to look at.....I deal strictly with functionality and reliability. The Avalanche not only fit the bill for everything I wanted in a truck......but it also gave me a "built- in" bedliner, a bedcover, extra storage and lots of other bonuses that most consumers end up spending lots on after they buy a new truck. This truck also has great brakes and plenty of power.
self dimming rear-view and side mirrors, heated seats, mid-gate, hard-cover bed panels, cargo lights, foot step in rear bumper for getting up into the bed of truck!
tail gate lock should be integrated with door locks and bed cargo lights should be "switched" to tail-gate! Also, need a passenger airbag "OFF" switch.
THIS VEHICLE HAS A SUPERIOR RIDE AND HANDLING OF ANY SPORT UTILITY I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED. IT IS A VERY MULTI- PURPOSE VEHICLE. GOOD FOR SPORTING OR LONG FAMILY TRIPS. IT QUITE HONESTLY IS THE BEST AUTOMOBILE I HAVE EVER OWNED.
I've had my truck for 3 months and it has been the best purchased vehicle I've made thus far. It does not ride like a truck. It is very confortable to drive and ride in. I consider this to be one of my better investments.
My favorite feature is the fact the I can go from SUV to Truck in a matter of minutes and still have the same quality of ride.
My suggestion is to make Onstar standard on all models.
The avalanche has plenty of power and handles very well for a large vehicle. The only problems so far was a knocking sound that was later diagnosed as a loose cross member. The vehicle has been a real pleasure to own so far.
The versitility, the engine power and the handling of the Avalanche. The ground clearance is a big plus.
The quality of the interior needs to be up-graded. The brakes are very soft and braking distance seems to be excessive even at slower speeds. Definite improvement opportunity with the brakes.
I bought the Z66 package and it rides great! smooth acceleration plenty of power and looks cool without the body hardware. Took it to the dealer to fix a suspension noise, they found it, fixed it, same day. Best riding vechicle I have ever owned.
Midgate, Midgate, Midgate!!!!!
Having three active boys, the Avalanche has been the perfect vehicle for our life style. Whether we are going to one of the boys baseball games, out of town, a trip to Home Depot or the loading up on groceries, the Avalanche has been great. With all of the little extra touches and features it has to offer, it's obvious that a lot of effort and thought went into designing the Avalanche.
The advantages of having a truck and a Suburban in one.
How about a third row removable seat that locked into place in hte truck bed.
