Oil issues

My Dip stick will not read the oil

I have a 2001 Chevy Astro. I checked with the dealer and they said I had the right Dip Stick for this year and make of vehicle. This vehicle has a oil cooler on it. I just had a complete oil change and the machanic said he put up to 7 quarts of oil in it and it would not read on the dip stick. The guage on the dash reads between 4 and 6. I hear to replace the cap and rotor, It was damp and foggy the last couple days here in Michigan we have a 2000 chevy Astro we are going to try that and see if it works The vehicle just stalled out a couple days ago. I will let you know. What was wrong with yours? Read More...

Thanks for your concern.... For your records, there's a known problem with the ABS system on the Astro/Safari vans. There's an official TSB but NO recall. Still amazes me why no formal recall. Reverse Won't Work

Last Thursday I put my 2001 Chevy Astro Van (All Wheel Drive) in Reverse, but instead of going in Reverse, it wouldn't move, the engine just revs, it does make a slight whiny noise, but it just wont go in Reverse. All the other gears seem to work, but it does seem to drive a little slower in Drive. Checked transmission fluid hot, needed about 1/2 pint, still no reverse. ... Read More...

I own a 2001 astro. want to get a 2006 or 2007 van. Can't seem to find one as good as the astro. Very disappointed in the vans out there now, looked at the Uplander, but was disappointed. any suggestions. My astro is in very good condition with 94000 miles. Same thing happeed to my 2001 Safari van. One day while pulling away from a stop light, I hear a large bang and lost "R" and 2nd gear out of the tranny. Only had 1 and 3rd remaining - and "limped" the van back home. To fix, the tranny guy rebuilt it. He told me that blowing 2nd and "R" is common on the Astro/Safaris models.
