GMC Safari/Chevy Astro

Re: 2000 GMC Safari [jedecad]

I have a similar problem with my 2000 Chevy Astro van. What I found to be the problem was a broken door jam switch on my sliding door. It's the spring loaded plastic thing that the door pushes in when you close the sliding door. Hopefully, your problem won't be any more complex than this. Whatever the outcome, keep us posted. These are great vans. Mine has 134,000 miles ... Read More...

Re: Brake and ABS lights. [egillett]

Thanks for your concern.... For your records, there's a known problem with the ABS system on the Astro/Safari vans. There's an official TSB but NO recall. Still amazes me why no formal recall. For details.... Bottom line is... Defector sensor (which needs to be replaced) or the existing sensor is too "rusted up" to work properly... ----------------- .... Basically, ... Read More...

2000 AWD Astro Van.....Starting problem

First to "thebigirl" two years ago I had a choice to either put in a NEW or a Junkyard engine or scrap my van and buy a new one.....MOTOR died big time on me from a problem which many chevy owners faced with this years motor......since a good structurally, nice interiored van with NO working engine is basically worthless.....I bought a NEW Jasper Complete engine ... 2000 Chevy Astro Van...No HEAT blowing in!!!

I just purchased a used Chevy Astro two weeks ago. When I took it for a test drive, everything seemed to be working fine. A couple of day's ago, it didn't seem like I was getting enough heat. It would blow heat a little and then one I didn't hear the fan running. What I do hear though, is a humming sound. :confuse: Can someone please tell me if it's the thermostat, or hoses, ... GMC Safari/Chevy Astro Transmission Issues

2000 Astro Hard Shift

My Astro has 165,000 and auto trans, 2 years ago I noticed that when I drive on interstate at highway speed 65mph for about 25 miles or more only, when I take the exit ramp off the interstate and stop completely then merge onto public street the shift from 1 to 2 is hard and loud. The problem does not exist when driving on city streets at posted speeds from 25-50 mph. I ... Read More...

Re: dusty19-vibration... [richly917]

I also have a 2000 Astro van with about 90K miles and has a similar problem. It has a vibration between 65 and 70 mph. The vibration has gotten worse over the last 6 months so I suspect that something is wearing out in the drive train. I had my mechanic check it and he balanced wheels and said that one tire took a lot of weight to balance but it did balance. Then I had him replace ... Read More...

No Passing Gear under Hard Acceleration

I have a 2000 Astro Cargo Van, V6 2wd. Recently Purchased. When going between 40-50mph and I depress the gas pedal fully, such as trying to merge or pass, the engine revs, but there is no shift in the tranny. This only happens at the noted speed range. The tranny seems to work fine in all other ranges. Had a local mechanic drive it and he felt it may be a solenoid, but nothing ... Read More...

Re: GMC Safari/Chevy Astro: Hatch door on rear of van [mechone]

Is your van a Mini Cargo Van? Is it powered. Does it have the 2 doors or is it a 3 door? A 2 door will not have it and a 3 door should. Do you have a power key control buttons. I would suggest you go and look at another 2000 van and see if they have one. also, look by the steering column or even check your manual. Read More...
