I have a 1999 Chevy Astro, had to replace radiator crack in plastic under top hose connection. I have a P0118 code showing - Engine Coolant Temp Circuit High Input. Replaced the temp sensor and reset , code is back in less the 5 mins. Does anyone have any ideas where I can start to chase this down. Thanks Dan in Alabama
We have a 1999 Astro Van and it stalls out/then won't start in wet weather. The distributor cap coilwire plug wires fuel pump and relay have all been replaced still stalling out, any ideas?

Had the transmission in our Chevy Astro rebuilt a month ago and it drove great! Two weeks later we go to start it and the lights on dash where trans indicator not viewable and the trans feels like it is in second gear upon throttle instead of first gear. Take it back to the trans repair specialist and they had it two days. Trouble code stored and read by their comp ... Read More
Thanks for your concern.... For your records, there's a known problem with the ABS system on the Astro/Safari vans. There's an official TSB but NO recall. Still amazes me why no formal recall. For details.... Bottom line is... Defector sensor (which needs to be replaced) or the existing sensor is too "rusted up" to work properly... ----------------- .... Basically, dirty sensor mounting surfaces cause the signal to drop out at low ... Read More

Thanks Steve. Your problem description matches mine. My Haynes manual has a pretty good trouble shooting section for the fuel system. The fuel pressure regulator is on the 1993 Z-motor TBI assembly. When I get more time to work on it, I will verify that the left line is the fuel supply line, and the right line is the tank return. Another thing to check, if you have a later model ... Read More

How many miles do you have on it? I'd be curious to know what the results after you check the fuel pressure. If it checks fine, I agree w/ Kieco as far as changing the regulator, much cheaper and it has to be easier.

My 2 cents... I have a 97 Astro. My fuel pressure was around 57 or so while the engine was running. It would drop off to zero immediately after turning off the key. According to the book, the fuel pressure should drop off slowly after turning off the ignition. I decided to replace the fuel pressure regulator. I guess I had a 50/50 shot. That seemed to take care of both ... Read More

Ok here is what I have. 1999 Chevy Astro Van 4.3L When I purchased this vehicle 1 year ago it always started up on the first crank. Didn't make a difference whether it was cold or hot. I noticed that once this winter started (I live in Florida) and the weather was a little colder. It started to become just a little hard to start. It would take two cranks, then ... Read More

I tried using this method before but the light stayed off for only a couple of minutes and came back on. After going around and talking to a couple of guys, both of them told me to use the radio method. They just didn't know the proper procedure.

Can't use the radio, to clear the codes disconnect the neg battery cable for a couple of minutes and the computer will reset. The other method is to remove one of the fuses in the fuse box by the battery under the hood but, I don't have my Hanes manuel here at work to tell you which one so just do the cable to be safe.

A couple of weeks ago I received a call from a friend telling me that their astro van would not start. After having the vehicle towed to their home, I came over to check the vehicle and found out that the coil wire(from distributor cap to coil) was arking against the engine, cancelling the spark to the distributor cap. I replaced the spark plug wires and the engine ran great. :) ... Read More
You can go to a Chevy dealer and get 6 bottles of AutoTrak II blue fluid for the transfer case. You are supposed to drain the old stuff, put in 3 bottles of the new, drive for a half hour, drain the 'new' stuff, then put in another load of new stuff! Sounds like a waste. We had this problem after 80k miles on our 2000 AWD Astro. This 'fix' worked ... Read More

I was told it could be a grounding problem. But I have ... Read More

Alastair, Refer to the lst few lines of post 246 on how to fix the problem on the a/c not blowing out the vents. Very simple fix involving an 1/8" dia plastic vacuum line. I am not sure on fixing the blower motor switch problem, it has not happen yet to my van. I would have probably done the same and purchased a new control unit. If it is an intermittant ... Read More

Hello there, I have a deteriorating problem on my van. When I bought it used, the blower/fan only worked on 4 and not on 1/2/3. Not a big deal. Recently however, it has - intermittently - stopped working on 4 as well. I was told that there is a valve under the hood on the a/c lines that has a black cap on it. You are supposed to be able to turn it with a screw driver. Any advice would be appreciated. We no longer have cold air coming from the front vents of our Astro. It blows cold in the rear. As we start up, the air seems to be cool but then looses all cold and just blows out hot in front. Rear stays cold. . Could there be a blocked vent or something similar. There is condensation appearing on the ground in the rear left ... Read More
