Of course, there are those who think every vehicle should be custom built to do everything they personally want. They want 50 mpg and capacity to haul the biggest load imaginable. Very good van - built on a truck chassis and the engine has plenty of power to tow a good sized trailer (5,500 lbs). Lots of driver and passenger comforts-armrests, etc. Easy to drive even when towing a big load. It's not a Ford F-350 so don't expect that! Great van, bigger than a mini-van and a lot better.
Towing capacity. Driver comfort. Turns in a short radius.
Front passenger may feel a bit cramped if they are tall. Not much solution since you have a sliding door on that side.
This van is a truck, not a car, and has the good and bad points of a truck. As a box on wheels, it is great. It hauls lots of people or stuff and tows a heavy trailer. It is nimble in parking lots and comfortable on the highway. It gets 20 mpg at interstate speeds. It is roomy when compared to other minivans and "big" vehicles like Suburbans. I have put 141,000 miles on my 1986 Astro and 147,000 on my 1997. Both have needed transmission and air conditioner rebuild around 90,000 miles. Otherwise, trouble-free. My '97 looks like new and everything works. This van is unique in size and capability. GM should have updated the Astro instead of discontinuing it.
Roomy inside, but not big on the outside. Good towing capacity.
Easier seat removal. Reintroduce an updated Astro.
I put the miles on per year and this
van keeps up with them have had no
major problems .....power window on
drivers side.yes but have found that
to be a weakness with chevy's.....mine
has 142,000 miles and runs like a
clock..if I didn't need more room for
my business , would definately get
another..will be sad to retire this one.
mine has the compass, temp. package
and that is useful in traveling..it is
loaded and it runs like a top with all
those miles on it (maintain the
vehicle, tho)maintenance is everything
and we do
for a mid sized van it is a good one.
Is bigger than a mini van and a little
smaller than a full sized van....I
would keep this one for another 60,000
miles if I didn't need more room for
the business....I would have more
footroom on the passenger side tho.
EVERYTHING has been replaced early and
often. Maintained by the book at
dealership. My 3rd Astro and will
likely get another. This must be a
lemon but I love it anyway. It's cost a
fortune to repair but had extended
warranty for alot of the repairs. But
can't seem to get out of the dealership
for less than $600 a pop. But it's the
perfect sized van for my needs! Just
wish it was more reliable. Do wish they
had a 4th door though.
Power seats, front and rear air. Sound
system. Dutch door.
Replaced power window motor three
time,windshield wiper motor,intake
gasket,rear air conditioning hose,fuel
gauge sender,cruise control cable and
its had a steady miss in overdrive that
they never could fix.
