The Mercedes-Benz S400 Hybrid is continuing the S-Class legacy of being an automobile trendsetter. It has a 3.5-liter V6 and a lithium-ion battery for better fuel economy, but an S-Class is still expected to move with authority. Does this new base-model, more eco-friendly Benz flagship do that? To find out, we took it to the Edmunds test track to find out. Acceleration was tested with 0-60 and quarter-mile tests, while braking was calculated using 60-0. Handling tests included a timed slalom and two trips around a skid pad to generate a lateral acceleration calculation.
