HERNDON, Virginia — Volkswagen Group of America sold more than 100,000 clean-diesel vehicles in 2013.

It is the first time that the German automaker has reached that milestone in a calendar year.

Clean Diesel technology is offered in seven Volkswagen models, including the Volkswagen Beetle, Beetle Convertible, Golf, Jetta, Jetta SportWagen, Passat and Touareg.

"Selling more than 100,000 TDI Clean Diesel vehicles is a significant milestone for Volkswagen Group of America," said Mark McNabb, Volkswagen of America chief operating officer, in a statement. "We're excited to see the increasing numbers of customers able to enjoy the reliability, durability, fuel-efficiency and power of the clean diesel engine."

VW's sister brand, Audi, is also part of the clean-diesel offensive in the U.S. Models include the Audi Q5 TDI, Q7 TDI, A6 TDI, A7 TDI and A8 TDI. Next summer, Audi will introduce the 2015 Audi A3 TDI.
