TORRANCE, California — Toyota is teasing a new advanced active safety research vehicle ahead of the 2013 Consumer Electronics Show in January.

Toyota provided no details about the research vehicle. But an accompanying teaser photo seems to indicate that autonomous driving is part of the concept.

Lexus will detail the use of autonomous technologies and "high-level driver assistance systems" at the CES Show, Toyota said.

Lexus has been working on vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure communications and technology, Toyota noted in a statement.

The wraps come off the Toyota advanced active safety research vehicle on January 7.

Edmunds says: The 2013 Consumer Electronics Show will once again serve as a stage for vehicle manufacturers looking to show off their latest technology.
