FRANKFURT, Germany — The Suzuki iV-4, which previews a new compact SUV from the Japanese automaker, is being teased ahead of a debut at the 2013 Frankfurt Auto Show.

The iV-4 bears more than a passing resemblance to the Range Rover Evoque.

Suzuki said the concept "is an indication of the direction which will be taken with the future model to be added to the company's SUV lineup."

The automaker published two darkened images of the concept and provided no technical specifications.

"The iV-4 is Suzuki's new concept for a personal compact SUV," the company said in a statement.

The concept is unlikely to have any implications for U.S. consumers. American Suzuki Motor Corporation announced last November that it will wind down and discontinue new vehicle sales in the U.S. The American subsidiary of the Japanese automaker also filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

American Suzuki plans to restructure its business to focus on the more profitable motorcycle, all-terrain vehicle and marine products that it offers.

Edmunds says: An intriguing concept, but a vehicle that American consumers won't ever see in their driveways.

What if iV-4 in America: Engine: Motori 3.0 lilter Diesel (from Italy). Trans: Chrysler-Fiat 9 speed (the one that will be in the Grand Cherokee, from Indiana) OFF ROAD 4x4 CAPABLE: equipped with low range. This iV-4 can be assembled in any or all factories Suzuki has in Japan, India, Hungary, Ecuador and Brazil. Hope I see this model in America. Other variant as FWD or AWD won't have competitive advantage. Only 4x4 road and off road - compact SUV equipped with Low Range can succeed, because no one sells something like iV-4 4x4 in the US. Soon we will see the 4x4 Cherokee and the 4x4 Grand Cherokee trail, equipped with Low Range. All other AWD SUVs are snow and high way rated, not off road (exept Toyota FJ Cruiser which is huge in comparison, or the Range Rovers and G Mercedes, that cost many more $$$ ).
