The space babies are part of a tall tale used by a father to answer his son's "where do babies come from" question.
"Space Babies reveals the existence of a faraway planet known as 'Babylandia' and follows infant boys, girls, dogs, pandas and more on their journey to Earth to join their new families," said Kia Motors America in a statement. "After taking it all in, the curious child begins to offer an alternative theory passed on by a friend but his quick-thinking father calls upon UVO's voice-activated jukebox feature to hurriedly change the subject and survive another day in the adventures of parenthood."
The space babies approach is a radical departure from Kia's 2012 Super Bowl commercial, which featured supermodel Adriana Lima and Motley Crue.
Automakers — including Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Toyota, and Volkswagen — have been teasing their commercials in the run-up to the 2013 Super Bowl. Mercedes-Benz stirred up controversy this week with a provocative Super Bowl teaser that featured supermodel Kate Upton. Audi is jumping on the social-media bandwagon by asking viewers to pick the ending of its 2013 Super Bowl commercial that stars a dorky teenaged boy and a 2013 Audi S6. Volkswagen on Thursday teased a Super Bowl ad that stood out because it had no car in it.
Edmunds says: The race is on for the best auto advertisement of the 2013 Super Bowl. Will space babies beat supermodels?
