AUCKLAND, New Zealand — The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in Auckland, New Zealand is teaching rescue dogs how to drive in an effort to show their intelligence and potential — and garnering worldwide attention for the stunt.
Three shelter dogs, including a giant schnauzer, will show off their driving skills behind the wheel of a Mini Countryman in a TV broadcast next week.
David Letterman spent part of his show Wednesday offering the Top 10 Signs Your Dog Is A Bad Driver, including "crosses four lanes of traffic to go after a squirrel" and "insists on driving with head out of window."
S.P.C.A. Auckland said the driving dogs have been coached by an animal trainer and practice on a closed course.
Edmunds says: The point is that the dogs may have been abused and abandoned, but they are still up to learning new tricks.
