PARIS — A new Renault concept car is being teased ahead of its debut at the 2013 Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix.

The French automaker has not released the car's name, but European media has dubbed it "TwinFun" or "TwinRun." Two photos released by Renault hint at a sporty, race-oriented city car.

Renault said in a statement that this latest concept is like the Twin'Z supermini, which debuted earlier this month at a design expo in Milan.

"Like Twin'Z which was unveiled in Milan on April 8, the latest concept car to be designed under the leadership of Laurens van den Acker comes under the 'Play' heading of Renault Design's 'life-cycle' design strategy," the automaker said in a statement.

Following the unveiling at Monaco, the concept will be shown at July's Goodwood Festival of Speed.

"This concept car was designed and developed entirely by Renault Design as an expression of the brand's passion and an illustration of how different takes on the same city car are possible," said Renault.

The electric Renault Twin'Z supermini blends furniture and car design.

The Twin'Z is equipped with a rear-mounted electric motor and four lithium-ion battery packs spaced evenly beneath the floor. The powertrain layout, even more than the car's over-the-top lighting and 18-inch wheels with a glowing green finish, may have the greatest influence on a future production model, since the layout frees up cabin space.

Edmunds says: It wouldn't be surprising to see the Twin'Z's evil twin in Monaco.
