TORRANCE, California — The redesigned 2014 Lexus IS 250 RWD starts at $36,845, including an $895 destination charge, reflecting an $885 price increase over the outgoing model, according to Toyota.

But the base 2014 Lexus IS 350 RWD starts at $40,360, including shipping, reflecting an $855 price cut over the outgoing model.

The 2014 Lexus IS goes on sale this summer.

The 2013 Lexus IS 250 RWD starts at $35,960, including an $895 destination charge, according to the Lexus configurator. The 2013 Lexus IS 350 RWD starts at $41,215, including shipping.

Toyota said over $1,400 in previously optional equipment has been made standard for the 2014 IS. Standard features include HID headlights, L-shaped LED daytime running lights, Drive Mode Select, paddle shifters, a dual-zone climate-control system, a next-generation Remote Touch Interface, audio display, a color 4.2-inch multi-information display and 10 airbags.

A revamped F Sport package is $3,115 for the 2014 IS 250 RWD and $3,620 for the IS 350 RWD. The package bundles a full-mesh grille and front bumper, LED headlights, 18-inch split five-spoke wheels, front sport seats and a more aggressive sport-tuned suspension.

The base 2014 Lexus IS is more expensive than the base 2013 BMW 320i sedan. The BMW 320i starts at $33,475, including a $925 destination charge.

The base 2014 Lexus IS is more expensive than the base 2013 Mercedes-Benz C250 sedan, as well. The 2013 C250 starts at $36,255, including a $905 destination charge.

BMW and Mercedes-Benz have not announced 2014 pricing on their entry-level sedans.

Edmunds says: Interesting pricing strategy from Lexus on the revamped 2014 Lexus IS, with one model increasing in price and another one decreasing. It's something you should be aware of before you head off to the dealership.

    When you consider the standard equipment you get with the IS compared to the slightly less expensive German counterparts it is no longer more expensive but quite a bit cheaper. I have run build your own programs from each site and the IS is actually significantly cheaper to get the features you would expect and want in a luxury sport sedan.
