DEARBORN, Michigan — The 2014 Ford Mustang order guides are out and the Ford Mustang Boss 302 is gone, as the automaker had pledged earlier.

"Like the original from 43 years ago, this version of the Mustang Boss 302 also is limited to just two years, which concludes at year's end, and as Ford initially promised," wrote Said Deep, a Ford spokesman, in response to an e-mailed query from Edmunds on Thursday.

The new-for-1969 Boss 302 sported front and rear spoilers, blacked-out hood treatment and racy side stripes.

Confirmation of the end of this version of the Mustang Boss 302 is part of a tally of cosmetic changes to the 2014 Mustang lineup.

The exterior changes to the 2014 Mustang include two new colors, Oxford White and Ruby Red Metallic with Tinted Clearcoat. Three colors have been deleted, including the Boss-exclusive School Bus Yellow, along with High Performance White and Red Candy Metallic with Tinted Clearcoat.

Two new appearance packages for the 2014 Mustang add such items as black mirror caps and a black deck-lid spoiler.

There are no interior changes, new options or new functional equipment changes. The complete order guide was published on Mustangs Daily.

The Mustang is slated for a redesign for the 2015 model year.

The 2013 Mustang Boss 302 starts at $42,995, including a $795 destination charge.

Edmunds says: Here's hoping the Boss 302 returns when the new Mustang is launched.
