HONG KONG — The design of the Nissan Friend-Me Concept, set for a global unveiling at the 2013 Shanghai Auto Show, is all about connectivity.

The Friend-Me Concept features a center console that allows "equal information sharing among all aboard," said a Nissan statement. The company issued a teaser image of the car, showing its outlines, but has not released any other details at this point.

Nissan said Chinese designers working at Nissan Design China in Beijing helped to create the concept. "Friend Me," of course, is a term that is part of the fabric of social media.

"Friend-Me is designed for the vibrant, young generation in China, one of the most exciting segments in the fastest-growing automobile markets in the world," Nissan's statement added.

Edmunds says: It's surprising no other automaker has called dibs on the Friend-Me nameplate.
