STUTTGART, Germany/SHANGHAI, China — Seven-time Formula 1 World Champion Michael Schumacher and Mercedes-Benz announced a new partnership on Thursday, while Infiniti released a video showing F1 Champion Sebastian Vettel's first day on the job as its director of performance.

Schumacher will be helping the German automaker develop safety and comfort systems.

Vettel spent his first day at Infiniti making "Lucky Soup" in Shanghai, along with drinking snake wine and shopping at a farmer's market.

The F1 stars essentially are the faces of the two automakers and it's interesting to see how they are being put to use.

Schumacher will be "actively placing his expertise at the service of road users by searching for the best solutions for safety on the roads together with Mercedes-Benz," said parent Daimler in a statement.

His assignment: Enhance driver-assistance systems.

Vettel's first day on the job on Wednesday was something out of the Food Network. The Infiniti video shows him shopping for vegetables in Shanghai, chopping bamboo shoots for soup and making fortune cookies. Vettel seemed particularly adept at tying noodles in the shape of the number eight, a lucky number in Chinese culture.

"In the end, it's a race to the table," Vettel says in the video.

Vettel is a Formula 1 Triple World Champion.

Edmunds says: Infiniti and Mercedes-Benz have cooked up two interesting new jobs for F1 stars Sebastian Vettel and Michael Schumacher.
