MIAMI — The Cigarette AMG Electric Drive Concept powerboat gets a major boost from Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Coupe Electric Drive.

The covers came off what is being described as the world's most powerful and fastest electrically driven motorboat this week at the Miami International Boat Show. The boat borrows numerous components from the SLS AMG Coupe Electric Drive.

The 38-foot Cigarette AMG Electric Drive Concept is still in concept form, however. No word yet on such critical details as production plans, pricing or even range.

The concept boat has a combined output of 2,221 horsepower from its 12 electric motors, enough to hit a top speed of 100 mph. The boat is fitted with two 22-kilowatt onboard chargers from the SLS AMG Coupe Electric Drive. The concept boat is adapted to fit the infrastructure standard of many American marinas, say its creators.

The battery is fully charged in about 7 hours. To reduce charging time to less than 3 hours, the powerboat can be fitted with four onboard chargers as an option.

The concept powerboat has stolen much of the thunder at this boat show, due in part to its paint treatment. It is finished in AMG Electricbeam magno, paintwork usually reserved for the SLS AMG Coupe Electric Drive.

Edmunds says: Few compromises with this gem of the seas — except for a price tag that is out of the reach of most mariners.
