LAS VEGAS — Ken Block raced through a cockpit fire in his Ford Fiesta H.F.H.V. at the Global RallyCross event held during the 2012 SEMA Show and posted a video of the white-knuckles ride on YouTube on Wednesday.

Block raced through serious smoke coming from his center console in the first four laps, and persisted even when it started on fire in his fifth lap.

The 600-horsepower Fiesta H.F.H.V. — or Hybrid Function Hoon Vehicle — is based on the 2011 Ford Fiesta RS WRC car.

"MWRT's Ken Block threw down a commanding performance at the final stop of the 2012 Global RallyCross season in Vegas last week — a race he dominated from the start: qualifying first, winning both of his heats and going on to lead the first five laps of the final," said a statement on the Monster World Rally Team Web site. "And, Block would have likely won the entire event, had the interior of his Ford Fiesta H.F.H.V. not decided to catch on fire! But in true "press on regardless" fashion, Ken Block kept going despite the smoke and flames."

It wasn't until the small center console in Block's vehicle melted off in the fifth lap that he decided to bail and get out the fire extinguisher.

Block captured the fiery event with a camera in his cockpit and luckily escaped the mishap unscathed. Tanner Foust walked away with the 2012 Global Rallycross Championship title at the SEMA show.

Edmunds says: Another epic event for the hard-core Ken Block.
