AUBURN HILLS, Michigan — The 2013 SRT Viper is set to go into production shortly after Thanksgiving, underscoring Chrysler's renewed health since hitting bottom with its 2009 bankruptcy.
"Our hand-built-in Detroit flagship supercar is back and ready to take on the performance-car world," said Ralph Gilles, SRT president and CEO, in a statement on Wednesday.
Chrysler issued performance numbers for the 2013 SRT Viper, noting that it has a top speed of 206 mph and a 0-60 time in the "low 3-second range." The SRT Viper has a quarter-mile elapsed time in the "mid 11-second range," said Chrysler. The SRT Viper's braking distance from 60-zero mph is 106 feet.
The 2013 SRT Viper is equipped with a 640-horsepower 8.4-liter V10 engine. All Viper models come with a steering-wheel-mounted launch-control switch that allows for optimal acceleration from standing starts.
Chrysler's fifth-generation halo car has undergone an extreme makeover. The last Viper rolled off the assembly line in Detroit two years ago.
One of the biggest changes for 2013 is a more luxurious cabin. Chrysler said it's the most spacious model in the history of the nameplate.
The SRT Viper starts at $99,390, including a $1,995 delivery charge. The GTS version starts at $122,390, including delivery.
Edmunds says: A perfect way for Chrysler to kick off the Thanksgiving holiday.
