DEARBORN, Michigan — Ford is kicking off a major Ford Sync AppLink offensive later this year by making the feature available on 3.4 million more vehicles.

The free upgrade enables Ford owners to access and control smartphone apps via voice command.

Ford says the feature cuts down on distracted driving by enabling drivers to "keep their eyes on the road and hands on the wheel."

Currently, Sync AppLink allows users to seamlessly control over 60 smartphone mobile apps on iOS and Android platforms.

More than one million vehicles equipped with Sync AppLink are on the road today.

Edmunds says: Ford is committed to connectivity, which holds great appeal for car shoppers.
