LOS ANGELES — The Ford Shelby GT500 Super Snake is a scene-stealer in the action thriller Getaway.

Two genuine Shelby GT500 Super Snakes were used to make the film, which is described by actor Ethan Hawke as an "old-school car-chase movie." One was driven in scenes filmed on location in Bulgaria, while another was tapped for audio recording in Los Angeles. Approximately 60 percent of the film is devoted to car chases, according to Variety.

The movie, starring Hawke and Selena Gomez, debuts on August 30.

"Since Getaway takes place in a foreign country, I felt strongly that we needed the quintessential American muscle car without enough star power to shine with Ethan and Selena," said Courtney Solomon, the film's director.

In the movie, Hawke is pitted against the clock in a race to save his kidnapped wife.

A 2014 Ford Shelby GT500 Super Snake valued at approximately $79,800 is up for grabs in a sweepstakes linked to the Getaway movie. The car will be given away in a random drawing by Fandango.

Edmunds says: Most of the Shelbys featured in movies were built in the 1960s, so it's good to see a modern version take center stage.
