- "Trust is the New Black," the report says.
- "Given its relative scarcity, trust is emerging as a key positive differentiator for brands," according to the automaker.
DEARBORN, Michigan — Ford published its first trend report on Thursday, saying that trust will be a huge consumer issue in 2013, along with the rise of minimalism.
"Trust is the New Black," the report says. "Given its relative scarcity, trust is emerging as a key positive differentiator for brands."
Some critics reacted skeptically to Ford's report.
USA Today said the top-ranked trend "seems almost ironic" as Ford grapples with recalls of some of its most important vehicles, including the 2013 Ford Escape and Fusion with the 1.6-liter EcoBoost engine. The 2013 Fusion was recalled again on Friday to replace faulty headlamps, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Ford said it published the trend report — which has applications beyond the auto industry — because it is "more than just a car company."
Ford described itself as a "lifestyle enabler."
