DETROIT — A new Ford Mustang watch priced at $725 debuted on Friday as the Dearborn automaker ramps up the merchandising push behind the pony car's 50th anniversary.

Pricing includes a $25 shipping charge. The timepiece ships in October and can be ordered now online. Ford said just 1,000 of the luxury watches will be sold. The Mustang celebrates its 50th year next April.

Ford and Shinola, a Detroit luxury-goods maker, teamed up on the watch.

The face of the watch features the iconic Mustang pony logo.

The Shinola brand name was used originally on shoe polish during World War I and World War II. Bedrock Manufacturing Co. purchased the Shinola trademark in 2011.

Shinola became part of a widely used phrase in American slang in the last century: "not knows — from Shinola." The New Dictionary of American Slang says the phrase means to "not know one's a — from one's elbow. (from) Shinola (a trade name), a brand of shoe polish; used partly for a suggestion of brown color, mainly for alliteration."

Edmunds says: One of the more memorable items in the Ford Mustang's souvenir collection and something that goes beyond t-shirts and baseball caps.
