DEARBORN, Michigan — The most popular vehicle in the world is the Ford Focus, said Ford on Tuesday, citing data from R.L. Polk.

Sales of the Focus totaled 1,020,410 cars worldwide in 2012.

"Ford Focus is officially the world's best-selling passenger car," said Ford in a statement. The Toyota Corolla took the number two spot, followed by the Ford F-Series. A Chinese family hauler, the Wuling Zhiguang took the number four spot, followed by the Toyota Camry in 5th place.

The list is dominated by small sedans, including the Ford Fiesta. Fiesta snagged the number six spot on the list.

Rounding out the top 10 list were the Volkswagen Golf, Chevrolet Cruze, Honda Civic and Honda CR-V.
