LOS ANGELES — In the run-up to the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show in November, Connected Car Expo has announced its FastPitch contest, a competition organized to "showcase innovators defining new mobility while connecting them to the auto industry's top decision makers."

Individual and group entrants will be "challenged to solve a current issue affecting the auto industry." Subjects can include automotive data, mapping, emissions, environmental issues, in-car apps, in-car entertainment, parking and telematics.

Judging the event will be Philip Potloff, executive vice president and CIO at Edmunds.com; Christy Wilson, vice president of product operations at Splunk; Linda Senigaglia, NeverLost senior director of product marketing for Hertz; and Martin Price, co-founder of Productsy. These industry experts will hear pitches from eight finalists during CCE, and the winners will be announced on November 19 by Robert Herjavec of ABC's Shark Tank.

The 1st-place winner will be awarded a Splunk Start Program Enterprise License: 20GB for 12-month term, including Splunk education, marketing and support teams (a $40,000 value). Second- and 3rd-place winners will receive exhibit space at next year's CCE 2014.

"We are excited to work with start-up companies and use Splunk to optimize the winner's offering and help take it to market with the best chance for success," said Erik Swan, Splunk CTO and co-founder, in a statement.

Contest entries may be submitted beginning September 17. The final deadline for entries is September 30. Eight semifinalists will be announced on October 16.

Edmunds says: This is your chance to introduce your brilliant idea to an impressive group of automotive and technology experts.
