LAS VEGAS — The Fast and the Furious crew announced at the Cinema-Con convention here that the seventh installment of the street-racing movie series is set for a July 11, 2014 release date.
Vin Diesel, who stars as street racer and ex-convict Dominic Toretto in the films, announced the news as part of a Universal Pictures presentation to movie theatre managers alongside co-stars Paul Walker, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Gina Carano, Sung Kang and Tyrese Gibson. Diesel confirmed that the whole crew will be back for next summer's blockbuster as well.
Shooting for the film is expected to begin in August, with director James Wan taking over for Justin Lin, who directed the third through the sixth movies in the franchise. Wan is best known for his films Insidious and Saw. Neal H. Moritz and Vin Diesel will be onboard again as producers.
Universal confirmed the news on its official Twitter feed, tweeting "BREAKING: Get ready for more @FastFurious action! Fast & Furious 7 opens in theaters July 11, 2014! #Fast7."
