MIAMI BEACH, Florida — Danica Patrick was voted NASCAR's Nationwide Series most popular driver after finishing 10th in points during her inaugural full-time season on the circuit.

The announcement was made on Monday during the series' post-season awards ceremony.

"Omg!" Patrick tweeted after the win. "Thank u fans for voting me most popular driver for the 2012 @nascar_nns series! Y'all are the best! U heard me. Y'all."

Nelson Piquet Jr. was named most popular driver of the Camping World Truck Series.

"After fans cast nearly 120,000 combined votes on NASCAR.com, each series Most Popular Driver was revealed," said a statement on NASCAR.com. "Danica Patrick and Nelson Piquet Jr. were chosen by fans in the Nationwide and Truck Series, respectively. Each was honored for the first time."

Patrick turned in the best championship showing for a female driver in one of NASCAR's top three touring series this year.

Next season Patrick will become the first woman to compete full time in the Sprint Cup Series, driving the No. 10 Chevrolet for Stewart-Haas Racing.

Edmunds says: Patrick has said her goal was to win the title. But the "most popular" crown will do in the meantime.
