NASHVILLE, Tennessee — An Infiniti-sponsored contest to design Sebastian Vettel's U.S. Grand Prix helmet includes a grand prize package worth $12,000.

Vettel, the Formula 1 Triple World champion, will pick the winning design. The racer has close ties to Infiniti and serves as the brand's director of performance.

The winner will receive a replica of the helmet, along with a trip for two to the U.S. Grand Prix. The winner will also meet Vettel.

Infiniti said Vettel will wear the helmet for the Friday practice sessions and Saturday qualifying session at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas on November 15-16.

Participants can submit their designs to the Infiniti competition Web site. Entries close at 7:59 a.m. ET on Sunday, September 29. The entries will be judged on September 30.

"Normally I work closely with my helmet designers to come up with a new design for every other race," said Vettel in a statement. "This is the first time I've given the fans the chance to do it for me."

The competition is open to U.S. residents 18 and over.
