MIAMI — A one-of-a-kind Bugatti Grand Sport covered with mathematical equations and created by French conceptual artist Bernar Venet debuted on Monday.

"I found the idea of translating the equations of the Bugatti engineers onto the bodywork of the car very appealing," said Venet in a statement posted on the Bugatti Web site.

He added: "I realized how I could translate my passion for mathematical equations and scientific treatises into three-dimensional form."

Bugatti is calling it the "fastest artwork ever" and a "significant, collectible work of art." No price tag has been put on the art car.

Venet created a sensation in the early 1960s with his canvases painted all black and covered with tar. He is also known for his sculpture "Pile of Coal," which is essentially coal heaped onto a floor. His Web site features performance art, including a man knocking over steel beams that are leaning against a white wall. In other words, Venet is not about traditional easel painting.

In a 2011 interview with The Wall Street Journal, Venet described his taste as "very sober, very zen." He said he detests antiques and dreams of sleeping in an all-white bedroom.

The special Bugatti Grand Sport will be displayed in Miami during Art Basel Miami Beach from December 5-9.
