MUNICH, Germany — The BMW M6 Gran Coupe MotoGP safety car debuted on Friday. It is a modified version of the street-legal 2014 BMW M6 Gran Coupe coming to the U.S. in a few months.

The M6 Gran Coupe MotoGP safety car makes its first appearance this weekend during the Qatar Grand Prix.

The 560-horsepower M6 Gran Coupe MotoGP safety car is part of a fleet of official BMW MotoGP cars for the 2013 season, including five BMW M and M performance models and two new BMW HP4 safety motorcycles.

The M6 Gran Coupe MotoGP is equipped with a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 engine linked to a seven-speed M dual-clutch automated-manual transmission. The car accelerates from zero to 62 mph in 4.2 seconds, according to BMW.

"The safety car version of the BMW M6 Gran Coupe has been specially modified for its use as a pace car out on the racetrack," said BMW in a statement.

BMW M is kicking off its 15th season as Official Car of MotoGP.

Edmunds says: Any surprise that the BMW M6 Gran Coupe looks pretty magnificent in safety-car guise?
