- Rovio is releasing a racing edition of Angry Birds on December 11.
- The game is called Angry Birds Go!
- Players will have the ability to upgrade their rides and use special character power-ups in the game.
ESPOO, Finland — Rovio Entertainment has released a gameplay trailer for its Angry Birds Go! kart racing game.
The game puts a racing touch on the Angry Birds video game franchise, which has nearly 2 billion downloads across all platforms and editions.
Gameplay looks similar to Mario Kart or Diddy Kong Racing with an obvious Angry Birds theme. Gamers can race with any of their favorite pig and bird characters from the franchise, and naturally get launched out of a slingshot to begin the downhill race.
Each character has a power-up that can be used for a special advantage during racing, and players have the ability to upgrade their car's grip, speed and acceleration for a fee.
The app was built as a free-to-download title, meaning revenues will come from in-app purchases and ads. A toy line from Hasbro called "Telepods" is also being sold that can be scanned in and used during gaming.
The Angry Birds Go! free application will be available for download December 11 on devices running iOS, Android, Windows Phone 8 and BlackBerry 10.
Edmunds says: It looks like Rovio will have another successful title on its hands — the trailer has almost 2 million views in just two days.
