TURIN, Italy — Alfa Romeo, in a Facebook teaser, is touting its upcoming 4C sport coupe, perhaps a bit hyperbolically, as "the car to end all cars."
Due to lead the brand's return to the United States in late 2013 or early 2014, the 4C debuted as a concept at the 2011 Geneva Auto Show and was updated for the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show. The final production version is expected to be unveiled either at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show in January or the 2013 Geneva Auto Show in early March.
The Facebook teaser reveals only a single low-profile tire mounted on a black-chrome wheel with five circles similar to those used on the 4C concept. The teaser says, "The Alfa Romeo prophecy of 2013 won't disappoint. Behold, the car to end all cars is nigh."
The rear-drive 4C is expected to feature a lightweight carbon-fiber monocoque, a 230-horsepower turbocharged 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine and six-speed dual-clutch gearbox with paddle shifters.
Alfa executives have hinted the U.S. version of the car will sell for less than $50,000.
Edmunds says: Alfa Romeo returning to the U.S. is more like the tease to end all teases.
