Aggressive Bentley Continental GT3 Bows At 2013 Goodwood Festival of Speed

GOODWOOD, England — The Bentley Continental GT3 debuted at the 2013 Goodwood Festival of Speed, ahead of its official racing debut in 2014 in the FIA Blancpain Series.

The aggressive-looking Continental GT3 features a full aerodynamic package, including a carbon fiber rear wing and splitter. It also gets revised bumpers, hood, fenders and sills. The Continental GT3 has been stripped of the production car's leather-and-wood interior trim to achieve a weight of under 2,866 pounds.

Power comes from Bentley's twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine that delivers 600 horsepower. The engine is linked to a six-speed sequential transmission.

A double wishbone suspension with four-way adjustable racing dampers replaces the production car's air springs. The steering system features hydraulic power assistance.

The cabin features six-point safety harness and FIA-specification roll cage.

Bentley said in a statement that the GT3 is designed "to explore the extreme potential of (the) Continental GT."

The next step for the GT3 is a program of developmental track work.

The concept version of the GT3 debuted at the 2012 Paris Auto Show.
