LOS ANGELES — Construction is revving up at the $29-million Porsche Experience Center, the future base of Porsche Motorsport North America. The project is one of the most significant and ambitious automotive endeavors in North America.

In its latest update, Porsche said it is "making progress" on the facility. The automaker showed off images of a vast complex designed to be a mecca for customers who own such products as the Porsche 911 GT3 RSR. One new aerial view highlights the commanding footprint of the facility.

The project, located in Carson, California, will be completed in the fourth quarter of 2014.

Porsche on Monday tallied the economic impact of the project, saying the project development phase has resulted in the creation of 310 jobs — 290 in Los Angeles and an additional 20 in other regions of Southern California. Ongoing facility operation will result in the creation of 135 jobs — 130 in Los Angeles County and five in other regions of Southern California.

Once operational, the facility will generate $22.5 million in economic activity each year, the automaker said.

The 53-acre complex will include the Porsche Experience Center, the Porsche Human Performance Center and Porsche Motorsport North America.

The center will overlook the Porsche Test Track, which offers drivers a variety of track configurations and surface conditions. The track is designed to be split into seven modules that can be used independently or connected together to form a longer handling circuit.

The new complex will also feature the Porsche Human Performance Center and sports science lab, offering custom personal fitness and wellness for racecar drivers and endurance athletes.

Edmunds says: Porsche is making great strides in the construction of its highly anticipated Porsche Experience Center.
