SEOUL, South Korea — The redesigned 2016 Kia Sorento SUV, which features a lower roofline and a larger grille, will debut in August in Korea, ahead of a public unveiling on October 2 at the 2014 Paris Auto Show.

"The new model boasts a lower roofline, higher beltline, more muscular stance, rounded shoulders at the rear and deeply sculpted body surfaces," Kia said in a statement on Tuesday.

The 2016 Sorento was styled at Kia's design studios in Korea, Germany and the U.S.

The changes are calculated to pit the Sorento against three-row crossovers, including the Honda Pilot and Chevrolet Traverse. Other key Sorento competitors include the Chevrolet Equinox, Ford Edge and Toyota RAV4.

"At this point we aren't ready to release any additional information," wrote James Hope, a Kia Motors America spokesman, in response to a query from Edmunds.

Edmunds says: The wraps come off a rather grown-up looking version of the future Kia Sorento.
