MONTVALE, New Jersey — The base 2015 Mercedes-Benz C300 rear-wheel-drive sedan starts at $39,325, including a $925 destination charge.

It is now the lowest-priced 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class model, since no base 2015 Mercedes-Benz C250 is planned, the automaker told Edmunds on Tuesday.

The shift in the lineup means that consumers will pay an extra $2,600 to get into a base 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class as compared to the 2014 model. The 2014 Mercedes-Benz C250 sedan starts at $36,725, including a $925 destination charge.

"No base C250 gasoline engine (model) is planned, but we are getting a C250 Bluetec sedan in 2016," wrote Mercedes-Benz USA spokesman Christian Bokich in response to a query.

The automaker also will offer a 2015 Mercedes-Benz C350 plug-in hybrid car in the fourth quarter of 2015. No information has been released about the 2015 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG.

No pricing was released on the C250 Bluetec or the C350 plug-in hybrid.

The 2015 C300 arrives at U.S. dealerships in the first quarter of 2015, with the 2015 Mercedes-Benz C300 4Matic and C400 4Matic arriving in showrooms on August 25, 2014.

The 2015 Mercedes-Benz C300 4Matic sedan starts at $41,325, including shipping, reflecting a $1,000 price increase over the 2014 model.

The 2015 Mercedes-Benz C400 4Matic starts at $49,515, including shipping. It is a new model.

New standard features on the 2015 C-Class models include Collision Prevention Assist, keyless start, media interface, 7-inch color display, a touchpad, pre-wiring for Garmin Map Pilot, power folding mirrors and power driver seat with memory.

Options include a head-up display, panorama sunroof and ambient lighting.

Key competitors to the C-Class include the Audi A4, BMW 3 Series and Lexus IS.

Edmunds says: The Mercedes-Benz C-Class has been one of the most affordable and accessible models in the Mercedes lineup, but the price of admission — especially for entry-level buyers — has gone up.
