DEARBORN, Michigan — The 2015 Ford Mustang Convertible, which will go on sale shortly after the fastback next fall, was revealed by Ford's U.K. arm on Twitter.

"Unfortunately, we didn't have time to shoot official press shots of the convertible before we had to ship the cars around the world," wrote Alan Hall, a Ford spokesman, in response to an e-mailed message from Edmunds seeking more photos and information about the drop top. "So we'll have to provide those at a later date."

Hall said the convertible will roll out "shortly after the fastback (fall 2014) in similar fashion to how we've always introduced new versions of Mustang."

All of the convertible versions of the Mustang will be soft tops and available only in black.

"All convertible tops are now made of cloth, no vinyl," Hall noted.

The motor for the top is now electric versus hydraulic.

Hall said the setup "is more than twice as fast going down as the outgoing top, so 7 seconds versus 15 currently."

The redesigned 2015 Ford Mustang was unveiled on Thursday in six cities on four continents, underscoring the new global aspirations for the iconic pony car. The new Mustang is lower, wide and sleeker than its predecessor.

Edmunds says: The 2015 Ford Mustang Convertible gets some upgrades that should be pleasing to car shoppers.
