The Chevrolet AppShop will give drivers free access to additional music, podcast and travel apps, all designed for in-vehicle use.

Among the new apps is a Vehicle Health app that is expected to be available by the end of 2014. This app uses vehicle data to provide on-demand diagnostic reports and maintenance notifications, among other things.

Glympse lets drivers share their location with others, including speed and estimated arrival time.

The Chevrolet AppShop will be standard on properly equipped Chevrolets with MyLink technology. The apps would be free to download with an active data plan, said GM.

At launch, the AppShop will feature streaming audio from iHeartRadio, NPR, Slacker, TuneIn and Kaliki.

Edmunds says: Expect this app list to grow as more become available for in-car use.
