LAS VEGAS — The redesigned cabin of the 2015 Audi TT, which debuted at the 2014 International CES, goes high tech with a fully digital instrument cluster.

Audi said the 2015 TT will arrive in showrooms later this year. Pricing and other details about the sports car have not been disclosed.

The ground-up redesign of the TT's cabin was calculated to enable "the driver to experience technology," the German automaker said in a statement.

Audi calls the setup in the third-generation TT a "virtual cockpit" that puts all of the information in front of the driver. It replaces the traditional gauge cluster with a digital display that can show multiple screens, including a full color map.

The centerpiece of the interior redesign is a 12.3-inch display. Drivers can switch between two display modes. They are "classic view," which places the speedometer and rev counter in the foreground and "infotainment" mode.

The instrument panel is designed to look like an airplane wing. The round air nozzles, a classic TT design cue, are retained. The controls for the air conditioning are housed in the vents.

The cabin also gets a new multifunction steering wheel with a flat-bottomed rim and S sport seats with side bolsters that can be adjusted pneumatically. The steering-wheel controls are patterned after a smartphone and include a full-text search function.

The Audi TT targets the BMW Z4 and Porsche Boxster.

Edmunds says: Technology is at the top of the shopping list for many cars buyers. Audi clearly listened to that demand in its redesign of the 2015 TT.
