TORRANCE, California — The base 2014 Toyota RAV4 starts at $24,410, including an $860 destination charge, reflecting a $250 price increase over the outgoing model, according to Toyota. Production on the 2014 RAV4 begins in November.

The midlevel 2014 Toyota RAV4 XLE starts at $25,860, including shipping, reflecting a $710 price increase over the outgoing model.

The top-of-the-line 2014 Toyota RAV4 Limited starts at $29,180, including shipping, reflecting a $1,310 price increase — or 5 percent hike — over the outgoing model.

The 2014 RAV4 is a carryover model. The RAV4 was redesigned for the 2013 model year.

Toyota said the 2014 RAV4 offers updated equipment for two of its trim levels. The RAV4 XLE adds sunvisor extenders and chrome interior door handles as standard equipment. An optional $725 Technology package will be offered for the RAV4 Limited that includes a blind spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure alert and auto high beam.

The blind spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert will no longer be offered as a stand-alone option.

Blue Crush Metallic is a new exterior color on the 2014 RAV4.

The 2014 RAV4 is more expensive than its chief Japanese competitor, the 2014 Honda CR-V. The base 2014 CR-V starts at $23,775, including an $830 destination charge.

The 2014 RAV4 also is more expensive than the 2014 Ford Escape. The base 2014 Escape starts at $23,595, including an $895 destination charge.

Edmunds says: Bargain hunters may want to scoop up the last of the 2013 Toyota RAV4s on dealer lots in order to avoid the price increases.
