AUBURN HILLS, Michigan — The base 2014 Ram 1500 starts at $24,605, including a $1,095 destination charge, reflecting a $610 price increase over the base 2013 Ram 1500. The 2014 Ram 1500 goes on sale in the fourth quarter of the year.

The chart topper is the 2014 Ram 1500 Laramie Limited, which starts at $49,175, including shipping.

The EcoDiesel engine option on the 2014 Ram 1500 is priced at $2,850. Mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission, the 3.0-liter V6 EcoDiesel engine delivers 240 horsepower.

Base 2013 Ram 1500s start at $23,995, including a $1,095 destination charge. The base 2013 model is equipped with a now-discontinued 4.7-liter V8 engine. A 5.7-liter Hemi V8 engine hooked to a six-speed automatic transmission powers the base 2014 Ram 1500.

The 2014 Ram 1500 with a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine and an eight-speed automatic transmission starts at $25,295, including destination.

New on the 2014 Ram 1500 is a front park assist system that notifies the driver of front/rear object proximity. Two new colors are offered for 2014: Blue Streak and Granite Crystal.

In comparison, the base 2013 Ford F-150 starts at $24,950, including a $995 destination charge. Ford has not announced 2014 F-150 pricing.

Another Ram 1500 rival, the 2013 Nissan Titan, starts at $30,695, including a $1,095 destination charge. Nissan has not announced 2014 Titan pricing.

Chrysler said the 2014 Ram 2500 Heavy Duty pickup truck starts at $30,695, including a $1,095 destination charge. It comes standard with a 5.7-liter V8 engine, but buyers can upgrade to the 6.4-liter V8 engine for $1,495.

Edmunds says: Buyers should snap up the new 2014 Ram 1500 with the diesel-engine option.
