ATLANTA — The 2014 Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet and 911 Turbo S Cabriolet were unveiled on Monday ahead of a global debut at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show.

The 911 drop tops go on sale in the U.S. in early 2014.

The base 2014 Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet starts at $161,650, including a $950 destination charge, reflecting a $12,400 premium over the 2014 911 Turbo. The 2014 Porsche 911 Turbo starts at $149,250, including shipping.

The top-of-the-line 2014 Porsche 911 Turbo S Cabriolet starts at $194,850, including shipping.

Pricing on the 911 Turbo Cabriolet far exceeds that of the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray convertible, which starts at $56,995, including a $995 destination charge.

The twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter six-cylinder engine delivers 520 horsepower in the open-top 911 Turbo and 560 hp in the S model. The cars accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 3.3 and 3.1 seconds, respectively, with a top speed of 195 mph. The seven-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission is standard.

The 911 Turbo Cabriolet and 911 Turbo S Cabriolet return 17 mpg in city driving and 24 mpg on the highway, according to the automaker.

The roof on the 911 Turbo Cabriolet models opens and closes in around 13 seconds, at speeds of up to 30 mph.

The cabin is equipped with a standard Bose sound system and adaptive Sport Seats Plus with 18-way adjustment and memory.

Edmunds says: One of the more expensive — and desirable — convertibles on the planet.
