GOODWOOD, England — The track-only 2014 McLaren 12C GT Sprint, which slots in between the regular 12C and the GT3 racer, was unveiled on Wednesday ahead of a world debut at the 2013 Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Michele Shapiro, a McLaren spokeswoman, told Edmunds that the car will be available in the U.S. However, McLaren said an initial batch of just 20 cars will be delivered globally in 2013.

It starts at the U.S. equivalent of $298,000 in the United Kingdom, with a formal U.S. pricing announcement scheduled for just ahead of the 2013 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance in August.

The McLaren 12C GT Sprint was designed and developed by McLaren GT, the racecar-building arm of the McLaren Group.

The car is equipped with a twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V8 engine that churns out 616 horsepower. The GT Sprint retains the 12C's seven-speed twin-clutch transmission.

The suspension was tuned and recalibrated to accommodate the 12C GT Sprint's lowered ride height and Pirelli racing slick tires. The car has three handling modes which let the driver pick the preferred damping, roll stiffness and ESP settings.

The racecar on display at Goodwood will feature a McLaren Orange exterior paint treatment.

The cabin gets an FIA-approved roll cage and integrated fire-extinguisher system, along with a lightweight composite racing seat fitted with a six-point harness.

Options include an aerodynamics package that bundles a carbon-fiber rear wing and front splitter.

Edmunds says: McLaren amps up the Goodwood festivities with the new 2014 McLaren 12C GT Sprint.
