SHANGHAI, China — The 2014 Maserati Ghibli entry-level sedan is being teased ahead of its world debut at the 2013 Shanghai Auto Show.

A teaser photo shows the car covered by a sheet.

Maserati's U.S. arm would not confirm that the car is the Ghibli. Spokesman Jeffrey Ehoodin told Edmunds that he could say "nothing official" about the teaser photo.

The photo was part of a Maserati media invitation to attend the Shanghai show and witness the car's world premiere. An accompanying text said: "A truly exciting discovery awaits you: the worldwide presentation of our newest model. Be the first to experience a stunning car, which will leave you breathless, confirming both the incomparable heritage of Maserati as well as its extraordinary future."

Maserati resurrected the Ghibli nameplate for the new car that slots beneath the Quattroporte. The Ghibli name was used on a two-seat sports car in the late 1960s and early '70s. The Ghibli is widely expected to be spun of the Chrysler rear-wheel-drive platform that underpins the 300.

While the Ghibli is said to be "affordable," Maserati has not yet announced prices.

Edmunds says: Yeah, that photo's a teaser, all right.
