LAS VEGAS — The 2014 Lexus IS will be the first car in the industry to offer subscription-free traffic and weather information on an integrated audio system, said Toyota on Tuesday at the 2013 Consumer Electronics Show. The 2014 IS will debut at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show on January 15 and will go on sale this summer.

The audio upgrade is part of a new integrated HD radio, digital audio entertainment and information system.

Toyota said that for the 2014 Lexus IS with optional navigation, the automaker will provide a digital audio and navigation system driven by "hybrid technology capable of receiving digital traffic and weather information from both HD Radio stations and the cell phone network, using the driver's smartphone connected with the Lexus Enform system."

The Lexus announcement was just one of many by automakers seeking to give consumers more options when it comes to in-vehicle entertainment.

GM announced that future Chevrolet Sparks and Sonics will feature TuneIn, a streaming audio provider with a global network of 70,000 stations.

"It means a customer living in Chicago can dial in a talk radio station in Africa and a customer in South Korea can listen to his favorite electronic music station in Europe or jazz station in New Orleans," said GM in a statement.

The setup is enabled by a smartphone app compatible with the standard MyLink Radio in uplevel Spark and Sonic models. MyLink will be standard on the 2014 Chevrolet Spark EV when it goes on sale this summer.

Ford unveiled a host of new applications that allow drivers to listen to millions of songs through Rhapsody.

Aha Radio said it was adding Ford, Chrysler and Porsche. Aha offers access to more than 30,000 stations of audio content, including radio, news, Facebook and Twitter.
