IRVINE, California — The redesigned 2014 Kia Forte sedan starts at $16,700, including an $800 destination charge, reflecting a $525 price increase over the 2013 model, according to pricing details announced on Wednesday by Kia Motors America.

The top-of-the-line 2014 Kia Forte EX starts at $20,200, including shipping.

The price of the 2014 Kia Forte sedan can inflate with the addition of options packages. They include a new Popular package priced at $900. It includes 16-inch alloy wheels, cruise control, keyless entry, sliding front armrest, lighted vanity mirrors, sunglasses holder and other items.

A $2,300 Technology package adds navigation with HD Radio technology, a new instrument cluster, HID headlights, dual-zone automatic climate control and LED taillights.

A $2,600 Premium package adds a power sunroof, leather seat trim, 10-way power adjustable driver seat, ventilated driver seat, heated front seats, heated steering wheel and other items.

The 2014 Kia Forte sedan undercuts many of its chief rivals, including the 2013 Hyundai Elantra sedan, 2013 Honda Civic and 2013 Toyota Corolla.

Most automakers in this segment have not yet announced 2014 pricing.

The 2013 Hyundai Elantra sedan starts at $17,760, including a $795 destination charge, and the 2013 Honda Civic sedan starts at $18,955, including a $790 destination fee. The 2013 Toyota Corolla starts at $17,025, including a $795 fee.

The 2014 Kia Forte sedan is offered in LX and EX models. The base car gets a 148-horsepower 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine, while the uplevel car gets a 173-hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine.

Edmunds says: The 2014 Kia Forte sedan still stacks up as a good value, despite a relatively modest price increase.
