WASHINGTON — The 2014 Honda CR-V compact SUV has earned a five-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The CR-V received five stars in front and side impact crash tests and four stars in the rollover crash test.

The 2014 CR-V received "good" ratings in all Insurance Institute for Highway Safety crash tests, but earned a "marginal" rating in the small overlap front crash test. The test is designed to replicate what happens when the front corner of a vehicle collides with another vehicle or an object like a tree or utility pole.

As standard equipment, every CR-V incorporates an electronic stability control system; antilock brakes with brake assist; driver and front-passenger airbags; side curtain airbags with roll-over sensor; front-side airbags and a front seat design that can help reduce the severity of neck injury in the event of a rear collision.

The CR-V competes with the Ford Escape, Chevrolet Equinox, Kia Sportage, Mazda CX-5 and Toyota RAV4.
