DEARBORN, Michigan — A one-of-a-kind special edition of the 2014 Ford Mustang GT, the sixth in a series to be auctioned for charity, marks the 60th anniversary of the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds multi-jet flight demonstration team.
The Thunderbirds Edition is based on the Mustang GT glass-roof coupe and is fitted with a Ford Racing supercharger, suspension handling pack, Brembo brakes, Forgiato 22-inch wheels and Recaro seats.
The car is painted brilliant white with red and blue accents to match the Thunderbirds' F-16 Falcon jets. It also features front and rear wide-body elements by TS Designs and a handcrafted belly pan by Creations 'n' Chrome, which also did the paint and trim.
The 2014 Thunderbirds Mustang will be auctioned August 1 at the Experimental Aircraft Association's annual AirVenture show in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, with proceeds to benefit the EAA Young Eagles organization.
Previous one-of-a-kind Mustangs created for the EAA auction include the F-22 Raptor (2008), the AV-X10 Dearborn Doll (2009), the SR-71 Blackbird (2010), the Blue Angels (2011) and the Red Tails (2012).
