DEARBORN, Michigan — The 2014 Ford Cobra Jet Mustang gets tweaked with a few changes for the new model year.
The pony car racer is again fully compliant with the NHRA's Stock and Super Stock classes, and has a stripped-down shell that features a roll cage, Recaro racing seats, electric power steering and a drag-tuned suspension. Ford Racing announced via its Facebook page that there will be a few new features for 2014.
The 2014 Ford Cobra Jet Mustang will have the option for a three-speed transmission as well as a parachute mount for racers who plan to exceed 150 mph. Two new colors will also be offered: a lime "Gotta Have-it Green" as well as a Cobra Jet-exclusive flat black color.
Although we got all pumped up about the twin-turbo edition of the Mustang Cobra Jet that Ford Racing showed off at the 2012 SEMA Show, the 2014 model will again have a Whipple supercharger attached to its 5.0-liter V8 engine.
Only 50 vehicles will be built and pricing starts at $97,990 excluding special paint and graphics. Production begins in July with deliveries occurring in time for the 2014 racing season.
Edmunds says: Buyers will have to pony up quickly if they want to get their hands on one of these 50 racers.
